Bike Town Pop-Up At City Hall Plaza

Located on the terrace above the playground at City Hall Plaza (pending City of Boston license approval), this two-hour drop-in event is for families and children under 12 who want to learn to ride and practice their riding skills. A variety of different sized bikes and helmets will be provided, and staff will be present to lead on-bike games and teach bike riding skills and safe riding tips and techniques.

Individuals and families: no registration is required. We will have waivers available at the site. 

Groups and schools: please email us so that we know to expect your group! Hand out waivers to students ahead of time so they can participate. Everyone that takes part in our program must have a signed waiver to ride bikes. Teachers / group leaders are responsible for collecting bringing signed waivers to the event.

Free Furniture Pick-Up Pilot

The City of Boston has partnered with Household Goods, a furniture bank, to pilot a free furniture pickup program for eligible households in Allston/Brighton.

The City of Boston has partnered with Household Goods to pilot a free furniture pickup program. Household Goods is a non-profit organization that provides a full range of donated furniture, free of charge, to people referred by Massachusetts-based social service agencies. Each year Household Goods furnishes more than 3,000 homes. For more information about Household Goods, please visit their website.

what to know:
  • Eligible households for the pilot are in the orange zone:
    • Furniture Pick-Up Zone
      •  
  • Check your address's eligibility for free furniture pick-up below. If your address is eligible, you will be able to submit a furniture pick-up request. 
  • Household Goods will accept the following items: 

    • Couches, Futons, Upholstered Chairs (no office chairs or bean bags)

    • Dressers
    • Tables: Kitchen, Dining, End, Coffee, Nightstands, TV Stands (NO Gaming, Glass or Drafting Tables, Desks)
    • Sideboards, Bookcases, Entertainment Centers up to 6.5 ‘ tall
    • All items must be clean, complete, and in good working condition. Household Goods cannot accept items that are stained, torn, broken, or have any infestations.

  • Furniture pick-up will occur between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m on Monday, August 25.

To participate, adults can bring in clean tops, bottoms, shoes, dresses, or accessories in good condition to swap with other adults. 

Please do not bring in items that are stained, dirty, or damaged.

Up to 10 items of clothing can be dropped off at the front desk of the Brighton BPL beginning at 5:30 p.m. on August 14. The swap will begin at 6:30 p.m.. 

Please only take as many items as you bring and bring as many items as you take. Any remaining clothing will be donated to a textile drop off box

Registration is not required.

The 2030 Climate Action Plan lays out a roadmap for 2026-2030 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build resilience to climate impacts, and ensure that the benefits of climate action  clean air, good jobs, healthy homes, and vibrant green spaces  are shared by all. Grounded in climate justice, this plan reflects the voices of communities most affected by climate change and charts a path toward a healthier, more inclusive, and more sustainable future for every Bostonian. The City of Boston will release a second draft in Fall 2025 and the final 2030 Climate Action Plan in early 2026.
