To start the Carnival season, Mattapan is hosting a Band Launch event for all the Carnival Masquerade groups to share their designs to engage with the community. Each group will showcase their amazing costumes for this year’s Carnival season while dancing to the rhythms and sounds of Tempo International Steel Orchestra and DJ Ka’Shawn Mhad Kash Spencer. Local restaurant favorites such as Mellow Vibes will offer tasty Caribbean food dishes for purchase.

Para dar comienzo a la temporada de Carnaval, Mattapan organiza un lanzamiento de bandas para todos los grupos de la Mascarada de Carnaval. Cada grupo exhibirá sus disfraces para el carnaval de este año mientras bailan al ritmo y los sonidos de la orquesta Tempo International Steel y el DJ Ka'Shawn Mhad Kash Spencer. Boston Park Rangers, Urban Wilds staff, and Parks employees will provide formal and informal discussions or tours during the hikes. Some hikes may be more focused on taking a walk in the park, while others may be more informational.

Please note — this is not a hike. This is a "Horse of Course" program hosted by a Boston Park Ranger. Come meet one of the mounted units from our herd and learn about their role in the parks, and how they are cared for.

Eugene Matthew Lydon was born on April 29, 1929 in Boston.  Eugene enlisted in the United States Army on July 19, 1951 and was deployed to Korea as a Field Artillery Chief. Corporal Lydon was in the 555th Field Artillery Battalion, 5th Infantry Regimental Combat when he was killed in action  on September 13, 1952.  Lydon was awarded the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. Corporal Lydon is buried in the Mount Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.  Lydon was survived by his parents Margaret and Matthew Lydon who resided in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston.
