These services include housekeeping, cleaning, cooking, home management, and caring for children or adults in their homes. Domestic workers have the same rights as other workers to minimum wage, overtime, and other wage and hour protections.

Thanks to the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights, there are also special rules for domestic workers relating to record keeping, rest time, charges for food and lodging, the information they must have about their jobs and rights, and conditions for live-in domestic workers.

In 2020, the Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Lyft and Uber to obtain wages, benefits, and other protections for drivers. The companies reached a settlement with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office (AGO) that:

  1. provides at least $140 million in back pay to drivers who used the Uber and Lyft Driver apps to provide rides to passengers in Massachusetts between July 14, 2020, and July 2, 2024, and
  2. provides new benefits to all current drivers who use the Uber and Lyft Driver apps to provide trips to passengers.

In this webinar, the Massachusetts AGO will explain how to determine if you are eligible for back pay and the new benefits for drivers, such as minimum wage, paid sick leave, and health insurance.

To request interpretation at no cost, email workers@boston.gov two weeks before the event.
