Design Principles for Engaging a Demographically Complex City

Ceasar McDowell, MIT Department of Urban Studies and Planning

About the Presentation:

Boston, like every major City in this country, is confronted with the challenge of how to include everyone in decisions that impact their lives and those of everyone in the City.  This talk will present a set of guidelines for building public engagement processes for the demographically complex public.

About the Presenter:

Ceasar McDowell is a Civic Designer and Professor of Practice of Community Development at MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning. In his design work, Ceasar brings his deep commitment to the work of building beloved, just and equitable communities that are able to – as his friend Carl Moore says – ”struggle with the traditions that bind them and the interests that separate them so they can build a future that is an improvement on the past.”  He is currently working to develop “CivicDesigners”, a platform for developing a new infrastructure for democracy in the United States.
