The City of Boston has completed its first Disparity Study in 18 years to assess whether any barriers exist for minority- and women-owned business enterprises (MWBE) that make it more difficult for them to participate in City contracting. Creating pathways to overcome disparity and fostering equity and inclusion in the City of Boston is the top priority of the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development. To better understand the marketplace of Minority and Woman-owned businesses and assess potential barriers to their full participation in City contracting, Mayor Walsh, the City of Boston, Boston Housing Authority (BHA), Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA), and Boston Water and Sewer Commission (BWSC) commissioned BBC Research & Consulting to conduct a disparity study.

Please join us for one of our community briefings to hear in depth the findings of the Disparity Study as well as learn about our efforts to increase MWBE involvement in City contracting.

All community briefings will be held virtually on Zoom. We will provide simultaneous interpretation in Cantonese, Cape Verdean Creole, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

You can view the full Disparity Study report online.

This year’s theme, “Come Get Empowered,” aspires to empower Boston’s youth with onsite summer workforce development opportunities through engaging with employers, onsite job placement, career development workshops, connecting them to wrap around youth services, and more!

Every year, the City of Boston partners with hundreds of community-based and nonprofit organizations across the City to provide meaningful employment opportunities to thousands of Boston youth ages.  There are opportunities to work in a wide variety of job fields, like the arts, government and advocacy, STEM, sports and recreation, childcare, education, and more! We have connected Boston’s youth with more than 40,000 meaningful employment experiences by partnering each year with more than 150 community-based organizations.

At this year’s job fair youth will have the opportunity to:

  • Connect with 150+ SuccessLink employers
  • Connect with 50+ youth-serving organizations
  • Engage with 4,500+ young adults
  • Take part in career development workshops on applying for jobs, resume writing, interviewing, and financial literacy
