Anna VanRemoortel
Anna VanRemoortel is a Program Manager with the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, where she works across city departments to launch innovative projects and improve city services. With a background in sociology and community organizing, Anna is interested in how social structures impact the ways individuals work towards positive change and engage in their communities. She enjoys building connections between the theoretical and practical to advance our most important projects.
Before joining MONUM, Anna was the Executive Director of Roslindale Village Main Street, where she worked closely with city and community partners to activate public spaces, support local businesses, and organize residents to invest in their neighborhood. During her three years at RVMS, Anna launched new business support programs, including the organization’s first recurring grant fund, and the Farmers Market Ambassador program to meet the increased demand on food access programs. She was also instrumental in moving city investments along in the neighborhood, including the development of Birch Street Plaza. Her work there gave her broad experience across different city services, helping her bring fresh ideas and a collaborative approach to her current role.
Anna has a Master’s in Sociology from Duke University and a Bachelor’s in Sociology and Economics from Wheaton College (MA). When she’s not working on projects across Boston, you’ll find her hiking in the White Mountains or walking her dog around the Arnold Arboretum.
