Improving How the City Collects Gender Data

The City is working to change how we ask about gender identity to deliver key services that represent everyone.

Through our efforts, the City of Boston is now no longer requiring sex or gender identification on marriage licenses. This change is the first the City has made based on new gender-aware guidelines for City resources and the collection of gender-identity data.
