Small Community Grants Trust Program

If you are a 501c3 organization who works with Boston children or at-risk populations, has a focus on recreation or sports, or seeks to beautify Boston, then you may be eligible for a Small Community Grant ($500- $2000).

What are the small community grants?

The Trust Office manages over 300 individual trusts, many of which are for a very specific purpose and generate a small amount of money each year. We’ve grouped a number of these small trusts into the Small Community Grants Program so that we can honor the intentions of the donors by efficiently granting the funds to Bostonians.

Each trust has restrictions that the Trust office must follow. The spring round of the Small Community Grants Trust program offers grants in five categories that reflect these restrictions:

  1. charitable and humane purposes
  2. special or new recreation
  3. recreational areas for children
  4. field trips for children, and
  5. to adorn and embellish Boston's streets and public spaces.

How to Apply

Grant eligibility requirements
  • Organization must be a 501c3 or non-profit with a fiscal sponsor or partnered with a City of Boston department. Small Community Grants cannot be awarded to individuals.
  • Organization must be at least one year old (existed prior to March 18, 2023.)
  • Organization must have two separate contact people, with separate email addresses and phone numbers.
  • Population served: must serve Bostonians, and any grant funds awarded must exclusively serve Bostonians.

Apply online BY Friday, May 3, 2024, at 5 p.m.

Late applications will not be accepted! This is not a postmark deadline. All applications, whether submitted through the Google Form, hand delivered, or mailed, must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3.

The Small grants program runs two rounds per year. Because the fall 2023 round did not run, organizations that have received grants in the past, including in the spring 2023 round, will be eligible to apply to this round. However, please be aware that organizations awarded grants in this round will not be eligible for the fall 2024 round of Small Grants
