Age Strong Blog: The Daily Table
Daily Table is a Boston-area nonprofit grocery chain dedicated to providing affordable and healthy food to everyone.
Age Strong staff recently joined Celia Grant, their Director of Community Engagement and Programs, for a tour of Daily Table’s Dorchester site, located at 450 Washington Street.
Inside the store, residents may pick up fresh vegetables, packaged meat and seafood, frozen foods, pantry staples, and other common grocery items at prices that all can afford.
The Daily Table keeps nutrition in mind, with all prepared meals being low sugar and low sodium. It is also part of Boston’s Double Up Food Bucks program, where those using their SNAP benefits will get 50% off on fresh vegetables and fruits that they buy.
Aside from running a grocery chain, Daily Table also offers free nutrition and cooking classes at their Teaching Kitchen in Dorchester, next to their grocery. They offer a weekly class for adults 65 and older on Thursdays, 10-11:30am, where participants learn how to cook healthy meals from professional chefs and nutritionists. They also offer cooking classes to groups and organizations.
They also have locations in Roxbury, Mattapan, Central Square, and Salem.
