Shekia Scott is the Senior Cannabis Business Manager in the Mayor's Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion. In this role, she develops and executes the strategic vision to nurture the development of Boston’s cannabis industry, as well as initiatives to promote equitable growth. Additionally, she oversees the Boston Cannabis Equity Program, implements new equitable policies and legislation, advocates for legislative change, and ensures alignment with regulatory frameworks to support the broader goals of the city's business ecosystem.

As a community and policy-oriented visionary, Shekia's primary focus is creating and implementing policies, programs, and legislation that benefit communities most harmed by historical disparities. As a Boston native, her work has deep roots and connections to the City. Previously serving as Director of Policy and Neighborhood Liaison for former Boston City Councilor and current Massachusetts Attorney General, Andrea Campbell, her work supported and produced novel legislation, including the City's 2018 Youth Development Grant and Community Preservation Committee. Her community engagement and advocacy work as co-founder of the Boston Police Camera Action Team (BPCAT) led to legislation that ensured Boston officers were outfitted with body cameras for increased transparency and accountability. Furthermore, her collaborations with former city councilors, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley and Mayor Kim Janey, led to the creation of a City ordinance that fosters racial equity and inclusion in the cannabis industry.

Beyond Boston, Shekia has had a major impact on Massachusetts’ cannabis industry. From 2018 to 2020 she served as the inaugural Director of Equity and Community Outreach for the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission, which regulates the state's medicinal and recreational markets. In this position, she developed, oversaw, and advanced the vision, strategic plans, and mission related to the Commission's equity and outreach programming. Through her deep work at the commission, Shekia established the first statewide cannabis equity program to exist nationwide. 

Outside of work, Shekia enjoys being a master of many, learning new skills, traveling, DIY projects, playing football, skating, dancing, reading, and much more!
