Hire a licensed fire escape installer or registered professional engineer to conduct a comprehensive inspection of all components:

The licensed professional is responsible for obtaining all necessary permits, including a Short-Form Permit and a Fire Escape and Fire Balcony Affidavit. Please note: Uncertified property owners are not able to secure these permits.
- You can apply for a Short-Form Permits online.
- Submit your Fire Escape and Fire Balcony Affidavit in person at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 5th floor.
Prepare to pay the fees
You need to pay a $50 fee at the cashiers window. Fees can be paid in the form of cash, check, American Express, Master Card, Visa, and Discover.
