Take advantage of summer events and activities

It’s July! Now's the time to get out in the community and explore all that it has to offer.

Summer is in full swing, and it presents an excellent opportunity to get out and explore events within the community.  Mental and physical health are both positively affected by regular scheduled outdoor activities, and there's no better time to plan them than now.

Boston is a thriving city with lots to offer and much of it can be enjoyed for free! This month, we at the City of Boston Employee Assistance Program wanted to highlight different fun activities you can plan for yourself, friends, and family that can entertain and educate.

  • Wanderwisdom.com has an excellent list of 21 ideas of free events and historical areas to explore in the city of Boston.  Highlights include the Black Heritage Trail, the Bunker Hill Monument, the MIT campus tour, and a list of free museum days.
  • This event site lists a mix of both free and ticketed arts, food, and entertainment festivals held in the community.  One highlight includes Festival Betances billed as New England’s longest-running festival celebrating latino culture and food, including live performers.
  • The Boston Public Health Commission is currently running its Summer Fitness Series, which are free guided exercise classes within the community.  If you are having trouble getting started with a healthy exercise routine, this can be a great way to get the ball rolling!
  • The city maintains its own list of sponsored and free events including many listed above and more.

We also want to encourage people to be safe this summer season. You can read our previous post that shared tips to keeping yourself and your family in good health.
