Install or Replace a Gas Line

If your home or building needs a gas line installed or replaced, you’ll need to hire a contractor who can apply for a Gas Permit and perform the work.

Who can install or replace gas lines?

  • Homeowners and contractors can apply for the Short-form Permit.
  • Only a contractor with a valid, non-expired Massachusetts trade license may apply for a Gas Permit and perform any work related to installing or replacing gas lines or pipes.

What permits do I need?

  • For opening up any non-structural walls while performing the work.
Additional Permits

You will need other permits that only licensed contractors can apply for, including:

How do I apply?

The Short-form and Gas Permit pages list the steps you need to take, including:

  • What to expect after applying
