Two Centuries of Glory: Bunker Hill Monument 200th Anniversary
The public is invited to a reenactment of the laying of the cornerstone of the Bunker Hill Monument and the ceremonies accompanying this important event in American history.
9:30 a.m. - Procession to the Monument
Place: Begin at Charlestown Navy Yard Gate 1: here
Procession with Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts, the Ancient & Honorable Artillery Company, American Friends of Lafayette, Massachusetts Lafayette Society in full regalia will proceed along the Freedom Trail to the Bunker Hill Monument Grounds.
10 a.m. - Echoes of Revolution: 200th Anniversary of the Bunker Hill Monument’s Cornerstone Laying
Place: Bunker Hill Monument Grounds
Michael Douglas, “Daniel Webster” Reenactor will read Webster’s edited speech. “Lafayette” will deliver his historical remarks. Guest Speakers will follow. Accompanying music from the original 1825 event will be performed.
6 p.m. - Toasts and Odes
Place: The reenactment continues at Old South Meeting House
Prominent dignitaries will speak the very same toasts given at the 1825 celebration. Vocal quartet plus six strings and five brass and wind players will accompany.
