City Council Committee On Ways And Means Hearing On Dockets #0940-0941

Message and order for your approval an order to reduce the FY25 appropriation for the Reserve for Collective Bargaining by Thirty-Three Million Two Hundred Sixty-Two Thousand Four Hundred Sixty-Six Dollars ($33,262,466.00) to provide funding for the Boston Public Schools (BPS) for the FY25 impact of increases contained within the collective bargaining agreement between the Boston School Committee and the Boston Teachers Union.

Message and order a supplemental appropriation order for the Boston Public Schools for FY25 in the amount of Thirty-Three Million Two Hundred Sixty Two Thousand Four Hundred Sixty-Six Dollars ($33,262,466.00) to cover the impact of FY25 cost items contained within the collective bargaining agreement between the Boston School Committee and the Boston Teachers Union. The term of the contract is September 1, 2024 - August 30, 2027. The major provisions of the contract include general wage increases of 2.5%, 2%, and 2% in September of 2024, 2025, and 2026. The Paraprofessionals and ABAs will also receive market rate adjustments.

These matters were sponsored by Mayor Michelle Wu and were referred to the Committee on April 30, 2025.

In accordance with Chapter 2 of the Acts of 2025 modifying certain requirements of the Open Meeting Law and relieving public bodies of certain requirements, including the requirement that public bodies conduct its meetings in a public place that is open and physically accessible to the public, the City Council will be conducting this hearing remotely. This enables the City Council to carry out its responsibilities while ensuring public access to its deliberations through adequate, alternative means.
