Joy Armstrong (she/her) serves as a Policy Advisor in the Planning Advisory Council (PAC). In this role, Joy supports the development of the City’s first comprehensive strategy to mitigate residential, commercial, and cultural displacement in Boston.

Joy recently completed a Master’s in City Planning at MIT, during which she served as a summer fellow in the City of Boston’s Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics (MONUM). Joy’s research during her program spanned several areas of focus, such as studying the pathways through which tenants are informally evicted in Boston and daylighting the relationship between flood risk, race, and private investment in Atlanta. The common thread throughout her work has been a commitment to justice, transparency, accountability, collective healing, and truth-seeking. Joy also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics from Georgia Tech. Before her time in planning, she worked as a data analyst in the private and non-profit sectors, creating the tools organizations needed to make more informed decisions.

Joy and her partner are new to the JP/Rox area and look forward to settling in, finding their favorite spaces, and getting to know their neighbors. In her free time, you’ll likely find Joy reading, hosting folks, and frequenting her local coffee shops and libraries.
