Joseph Henry

Director of Cultural Planning

As Director of Cultural Planning, Joseph Henry (he/him/his) is responsible for making space for culture in the City of Boston and leading the cultural planning team within the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture. 

Joseph previously worked for the Mayor of London in the Culture & Creative Industries Unit leading the development of new cultural infrastructure in London. He previously worked in the Mayor’s Place Unit supporting the Good Growth of London and helped implement the world’s first Circular Economy Planning Policy for a major city. In 2023, Joseph co-curated ‘Dancing Before the Moon’ at the British Pavilion at the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale. Joseph previously led the social enterprise SOUND ADVICE which published the book NOW YOU KNOW in 2021 and won the 2022 Davidson Prize for the project ‘Co-Living in the Countryside’. Joseph has written for titles such as TANK Magazine, Dezeen, Casabella and Capsule Global. 

Joseph holds a degree in Architecture from the University of Brighton and a Master’s in Architecture and Spatial Planning from London Metropolitan University. In 2023 Joseph was selected as a Loeb Fellow at Harvard University Graduate School of Design. He is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Columbia GSAPP and previously held teaching positions at the London School of Architecture and Central Saint Martins. 

Joseph continues to develop his creative practice and recently built his first sound system and is working on a new film about dance.
