Heat Emergency in Boston

Mayor Wu announced a heat emergency in Boston from Sunday, June 22, through Tuesday, June 24. A number of splash pads and City pools are open, and select BCYF community centers will be open as cooling centers during the emergency.

Skip Gonsalves

Black Men's Initiative Program Manager

Skip Gonsalves was born and raised in the South End.  He got his start in public service while coaching and mentoring at-risk youth in his neighborhood. He began his career working at Scholar Athletes, a non profit organization focused on creating opportunities for young people by using athletics as a vehicle to support academic achievement.  There he provided academic coaching, health and wellness, and college and career readiness support for Boston Public School students. He later got introduced to workforce development and became a key contributor in helping individuals overcome barriers to employment.   As the Operations Manager at MassHire Boston, he oversaw the reemployment services program and successfully connected job seekers to local businesses. 

Skip is passionate about traveling, basketball and spending time with his family.  He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston where he studied Economics and Africana Studies.
