Evelyn Johnson

Domestic Violence Advocate for Boston Police Department-C-11

Evelyn Johnson of Hyde Park, MA has been a Domestic Violence Advocate for Boston Police Department-C-11 in Dorchester, MA for the last 25 years. Born in Albany, GA she moved to Boston and attended Roxbury Community College, Boston State College (now UMass) with a major in Psychology and minor in the Arts. Beginning her career at Southwest Boston Community Services as an Early Intervention Teacher’s Assistant and then working for the City of Boston as an Adolescent School Health Outreach Aide. These roles focusing on children with neurological impairments and Down’s Syndrome led to a position as a Social Worker with the city. Working closely with city and state agencies she was able to evaluate and investigate potential child abuse and neglect cases. These positions were the Segway for her tireless efforts with domestic violence as an advocate.

Throughout her life she has devoted her time to community work such as The Neighborhood Crime Watch Roundtable (The neighborhood the works together stays together!) alongside former Mayor Thomas M. Menino and former Senator Edward Kennedy.
