Alex Geourntas

City Clerk

Alex was unanimously elected as City Clerk by the Boston City Council on June 29, 2022 after serving as Interim City Clerk due to the retirement of City Clerk Maureen Feeney.

Serving as Assistant City Clerk for the past 17 years, Alex has demonstrated a deep understanding of the role of city government in the lives of its citizens and the important responsibilities of the City Clerk’s Office, which is one of only three offices formed under the City Charter.

The City Clerk’s Office, along with being the filing agency for the City, also manages various city functions such as business registrations, claims, domestic partnerships and posting of all public notices to name a few. The City Clerk is also Clerk to the City Council, creating the Council’s agendas, maintaining meeting minutes and acts as its parliamentarian. The City Archives, under the purview of the City Clerk, preserves and showcases the important history of our city allowing for dynamic educational opportunities for all of Boston’s citizens.

Alex has also attained the “Certified Municipal Clerk” designation from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks since 2014.

Active in his community for over 35 years, Alex served as President of the Board of Directors of the Greater Roslindale Medical and Dental Center for the past 10 years, Past Chair of the Archdale Community Center Council, Past Member of the Roslindale Day Parade Committee and a Life Member of the Ward 20 Democratic Committee.

Alex has been active for many years with his beloved Greek community here in Boston and throughout New England. He currently serves as President of the Greek Spirit of Boston Association and a member of the National Board of Trustees for the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA). He also co-hosted The Greek Program on BNN from 1996-2006.

After graduating from Boston English High School, Alex earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts/Boston and a Master Degree in Public Administration from Suffolk University.

Alex is a lifelong resident of Boston.
