Welcome Home, Boston
Mayor Wu wants to help Bostonians to buy a home and build wealth that will benefit them and their families for generations.
Mayor Michelle Wu and the City Council have allotted $58 million in American Rescue Plan (ARPA) funding to fast track the production of new affordable homes through Welcome Home, Boston.
Welcome Home, Boston has four phases currently being executed or planned, but more phases may be added.
The Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOH) designated developers to build Phase 1 homes in mid-October 2023. MOH issued the Request for Proposals (RFP) for Phase 2 and is currently reviewing developer proposals.
More information on Phase 3 and Phase 4 will be added as it becomes available.

The Mayor’s Office of Housing has made its recommendations for developer designations based on the City’s evaluation of all proposals against the RFP Evaluation Criteria. The RFP Evaluation Criteria is based on public comments.

Phase 2
With the Welcome Home, Boston Phase 2 RFP, the City of Boston is offering 26 parcels of land in Dorchester and Mattapan to be developed into affordable homeownership.
The RFP was released on October 2, 2023. The deadline was December 4, 2023. Community meetings were held on February 13, 2024 and February 15, 2024. At these meetings, eligible applicants presented their development plans and design concepts to the community for public comment.

Help for Homebuyers
The Boston Home Center offers other financial assistance to help you get you the best deal possible when buying a home.
If you don't know where to start, the BHC offers classes that not only teach you what you need to know, but may help you qualify for financial assistance. There are also informational events that are scheduled every other month that can help you understand how to get ready to buy a home.
Do you need to repair your credit? The BHC will help you do that as well.
Homeownership Lotteries
Homes built by the Mayor’s Office of Housing are made available to qualified residents through a lottery program. To qualify, you must meet the following criteria:
- Earn less than the Maximum Household Limits at 100 percent of Area Median Income (AMI)
- Be a first-time homebuyer who has completed an approved homebuyer education course and meets the minimum household size for the offered property
