City Council celebrates women's right to vote

This year marks the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which granted women the right to vote in the United States.

The 19th amendment, which states that “the right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex”, was passed by Congress on June 14, 1919, ratified by the 36th state on August 18, 1920, and added to the U.S. Constitution on August 26, 1920, now known as Women’s Equality Day.

This week, the Council adopted a resolution celebrating the centennial adoption of the 19th amendment granting women's rights to vote.
