June is National Caribbean American Heritage Month

On June 5, 2006, President George W. Bush issued a presidential proclamation designating June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month.

Since then, June has been recognized on the national level as a time to celebrate the rich culture, traditions and history of Caribbean people in the United States.

Tens of thousands of people from Caribbean countries continue to contribute not only to the development and vibrancy of the United States, but also to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the City of Boston in extraordinary ways. Today, Caribbean- American people living and working in the City of Boston are essential to Boston’s workforce, economy, arts and culture, community and much more.

National Caribbean-American Heritage Month honors America’s diverse society and the impact Caribbean countries and their descendants have had on shaping American culture today.
