People attending these events are encouraged to walk, bike, or take public transit. Information on Bluebikes, the regional bike share service, may be found on the website and information on the MBTA may be found online. The MBTA advises riders to purchase a round-trip rather than a one-way ticket for a faster return trip. Walking is also a great way to move around.

Events such as parades, road races, and street fairs may require road closures to accommodate the activities.

 

SEVERE WEATHER ALERT

Coastal Storm in Forecast - September 25-27, 2026

Mayor Wu has issued a coastal storm warning for the City of Boston beginning Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27, based on the National Weather Service forecast. Find more information on the City’s press release.

 

ALLSTON-BRIGHTON

Boston College Family Weekend - Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26, 2026

Due to numerous buses arriving at Boston College, parking restrictions will be in place starting Friday at 5 p.m. through Saturday at 11:59 p.m. on the following street: 

• Beacon Street - Both sides, from Chestnut Hill Road heading westerly to Newton Line at 2609 Beacon Street 

Mayor’s Coffee Hour in Brighton - Wednesday, September 30, 2026

On Wednesday, September 30, Mayor Michelle Wu will host a coffee hour on the Brighton Common. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday on the following street: 

• Chestnut Hill Avenue (Brighton) - East side (even side, park side), from Academy Hill Road to the HP Space prior to the Veronica B. Smith Senior Center at 20 Chestnut Hill Avenue

 

Open Streets Brighton - Sunday, October 4, 2026 

Open Streets Brighton will take place on Sunday, October 4 in the Allston / Brighton neighborhood. Open Streets Boston will offer residents, visitors and business owners the opportunity to experience Boston in a whole new way, through a fun-filled day of walking, biking, skating, rolling, and family-friendly activities on car-free streets, which will require some temporary parking regulations and some roadway diversions.

Parking will be restricted on Sunday along the following streets: 

• Brighton Avenue - Both sides, from Linden Street to Cambridge Street
• Harvard Avenue - Both sides, from Cambridge Street to Commonwealth Avenue

BACK BAY

Open Newbury Street - October 11, 2026

Newbury Street will become car-free to allow shoppers, diners and pedestrians to use the full width of the street. Arlington Street, Berkeley Street, Clarendon Street, Dartmouth Street & Exeter Street will all remain open, while Fairfield Street, Gloucester Street, and Hereford Street will be closed at Newbury Street. A 15 minute drop off and pick up area on Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street will be implemented. Additionally, a handicapped parking zone will be put in place on Berkeley Street.

The upcoming Open Newbury Street event will take place on October 11, 2026.  More details can be found on the event webpage. 

Parking restrictions and road closures will be in effect throughout the Sundays listed on the following streets:

• Newbury Street - Both sides, from Berkeley Street to Massachusetts Avenue
• Fairfield Street - Both sides, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street
• Gloucester Street - Both sides, from Commonwealth Avenue to Newbury Street
• Hereford Street - Both sides, from Boylston Street to Newbury Street, excluding the area next to the fire station

BEACON HILL

Jimmy Fund Walk - Sunday, October 4, 2026 

The annual Jimmy Fund Walk will take place on Sunday, October 4 ending on Boston Common. The route of the walk follows the route of the Boston Marathon, continuing further down Boylston Street, taking a left onto Charles Street, and ending inside Boston Common. There will be numerous production vehicles and buses in the area.

Parking will be restricted on Sunday along the following streets: 

• Beacon Street - North side, from Spruce Street to David Mugar Way; South side (Boston Common side), from Charles Street to Joy Street
• Boylston Street - Both sides, Arlington Street to Charles Street
• Charles Street - Both sides, Boylston Street to Beacon Street
• Brookline Avenue - Both sides, from Deaconess Road heading towards Francis Street including the loading zone and the first four metered spaces
• Cleveland Circle, Chestnut Hill Avenue - Cassidy Playground Parking Area – all of the metered areas

 

Boston 10K for Women - Saturday, October 10, 2026

The annual Boston 10K for Women will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026 starting on Beacon Street between Charles Street and Brimmer Street. Participants will proceed along Beacon Street, Massachusetts Avenue, and across the bridge into Cambridge, before returning along Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington Street, Boylston Street and finishing at the gate of the Public Garden. 

Parking will be restricted on Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10 on the following street: 

• Beacon Street - South side (Boston Public Garden side), from Charles Street to opposite Arlington Street

Parking will be restricted on Saturday, October 10 on the following streets: 

• Beacon Street - Both sides, from Charles Street to Clarendon Street, excluding the section of Beacon Street referenced above (Charles Street to Arlington Street, Public Garden side)
• Boylston Street - North side (Public Garden side), from Arlington Street to Charles Street
• Charles Street - Both sides, from Boylston Street to Beacon Street

CHINATOWN

Double Ten Parade - Saturday, October 3, 2026

The annual Double Ten Parade will be held on Saturday, October 3. The parade starts near the Chinatown Gate on Beach Street, then turns right onto Washington Street until it crosses State Street, then enters the Washington Mall area of City Hall Plaza. The parade begins at 11 a.m.

The Double Ten Parade is typically held on the first Saturday on or before October 10. It commemorates the start of the Wuchang Uprising, which led to the beginning of the Republic of China establishing independence from imperial rule.

Parking restrictions will be in place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday on the following streets: 

• Beach Street - Both sides, from Hudson Street to Tyler Street
• Hudson Street - Both sides, from Kneeland Street to Beach Street

Italian Heritage Parade - Sunday, October 11, 2026

On Sunday, October 11, the Italian Heritage Parade will be taking place, bringing an October parade back to East Boston. The parade will proceed from Waldemar Avenue, to Bennington Street, to Day Square, then to Maverick Square and finally to Central Square. 

Parking will be restricted on Sunday, October 11 on the following streets: 

• Bennington Street - Both sides, from the Walley Street to Saratoga Street (Orient Heights); North side (inbound side) from Saratoga Street (Orient Heights) to Neptune Road; Both sides, both roadways, from Neptune Road to Chelsea Street (Day Square)
• Chelsea Street - Both sides Day Square (Rose Restaurant) to Maverick Street
• Maverick Street - Both sides, from Chelsea Street to Meridian Street
• Meridian Street - Both sides, from Maverick Street to Porter Street
• Central Square - Both sides, southerly roadway from Meridian Street to Border Street
• Border Street - Both sides, from Maverick Street through Central Square to Condor Street

Mission Hill Road Race - Sunday, October 18, 2026 

The annual Mission Hill Road Race has been rescheduled and will take place on Sunday, October 18. Runners and walkers will follow a route beginning and ending at St. Alphonsus Street at Puddingstone Park throughout the Mission Hill neighborhood. Temporary parking restrictions will be in place on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the following streets: 

• St. Alphonsus Street - Both sides, from Tremont Street to Calumet Street
• Calumet Street - East side (even side), from St. Alphonsus Street to Hillside Street

 

ROSLINDALE

Roslindale Day Parade - Sunday, October 4, 2026

The annual Roslindale Day Parade will be held on Sunday, October 4. The parade will follow a slightly different route than in previous years due to a construction project. 

Parking will be restricted on the following streets on Sunday: 

• Cummins Highway (staging) - North side (even side), from Lindall Street to Washington Street
• Murray Hill Road (staging) - South side (odd side), from Florence Street to Washington Street
• Firth Road (staging) - South side (odd side), from Florence Street to Washington Street
• Bexley Road (staging) - South side (odd side), from Washington Street to Florence Street
• Washington Street (staging) - Both sides, from Stellman Avenue to Cummins Highway
• Belgrade Avenue (staging) - Both sides, from South Street to Roberts Street

Canterbury Street Bridge Closure - Effective Friday, September 12, 2025, Until Further Notice

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced that the Canterbury Street Bridge will be closing to vehicular traffic on Friday, September 12, 2025 at 9:00 p.m.  Findings from a recent bridge inspection required the closure of the bridge. The bridge will be closed until further notice. Pedestrian access will be maintained. Traffic should follow the detour signage in place.  The primary detour route will utilize Hyde Park Avenue, Cummins Highway, Rowe Street, Brown Avenue, and Seymour Street. The eastbound detour will follow Seymour Street to Brown Avenue to Cummins Highway. The westbound detour will follow Hyde Park Avenue to Cummins Highway to Rowe Street to Seymour Street.

Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution.

 

ROXBURY

Hispanic Heritage Luncheon at Melnea Cass Recreation Complex - Wednesday, September 30, 2026 

On Wednesday, September 30, the annual Hispanic Heritage Luncheon hosted by the Age Strong Commission will be taking place at the Melnea Cass Recreation Complex. Parking restrictions will be in place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday on the following street: 

• Martin Luther King Boulevard - North side (park side), all of the 2 Hour Parking spaces from Walnut Avenue to Washington Street (excluding any HP spaces)

Green Line Diversion - Saturday, September 26 to Sunday, October 4, 2026 

There will be no trains between North Station & Babcock St (B), Kenmore (C+D), & Heath St (E) the weekend of September 19-20 while ongoing signal repair work takes place. The MBTA recommends passengers use buses between Babcock, Kenmore, Heath St (Rt 39) & Copley/Back Bay, and use Orange Line service between North Station & Back Bay.
