Republic of Türkiye Celebrates 100 Years

The Republic of Türkiye, founded on October 29, 1923, by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, marks its 100-year centennial on October 29, 2023, celebrating a century of progress, democracy, and cultural diversity.

The Boston Turkish Arts & Culture Festival, now in its 28th year, has played an essential role in promoting Turkish heritage and fostering understanding between diverse communities in the Boston area and beyond.

The Turkish American community in Boston and the New England region has made substantial contributions to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of our great city, enhancing the diversity and vibrancy of our local communities.

As a celebration of this significant centennial and the 28th annual Boston Turkish Arts & Culture Festival, it is important to recognize and honor the contributions of the Turkish-American community and the deep-rooted friendship and cooperation between the United States and Türkiye.

This week, the Council adopted a resolution celebrating the centennial of the declaration of the Republic of Türkiye and 28th Annual Boston Turkish Arts and Culture Festival.

The Council went on record proclaiming October 29, 2023 to be the Turkish Republic Day in the City of Boston, and ordered the Property Management Department to raise the flag of the Republic of Türkiye over City Hall Plaza on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
