October 2020: Cybersecurity Awareness Month

In coordination with the 17th anniversary of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Mayor Martin J. Walsh has officially declared October Cyber Security Awareness Month in the City of Boston. You can read the entire proclamation online. This month is dedicated to raising awareness of cybersecurity, and encouraging residents to ensure their own information is secure.

The City has a vital role in identifying, protecting, and responding to cyber threats that may have an impact on individual or collective security and privacy. The Cybersecurity Team, part of Boston’s Department of Innovation and Technology, has taken extensive measures to maintain security. Last year, Mayor Walsh appointed the first Chief Information Security Officer, Greg McCarthy. 

In addition to practicing good hygiene to stop the spread of COVID-19, the City’s Cybersecurity Team encourages everyone to practice good cyber hygiene as well this month — and beyond — to stay safe on digital devices.

Events will take place across Massachusetts throughout October to raise awareness about cybersecurity and highlight the state's cybersecurity ecosystem. Attend an event or share the calendar with your friends.
