LinkedInsights: Morgan Cowie-Haskell

In our new COB #LinkedInSights series, we introduce real City employees to provide a snapshot of who they are, what they do, and why they serve the City of Boston — so you can read, learn, connect, and grow your network one impactful public servant at a time.

Building a thoughtful and actionable professional network on LinkedIn can seem daunting. Who should you connect with and why? And how do you build a connection with the person behind the profile?

In this month’s edition of COB #LinkedInSights, we sit down with Morgan Cowie-Haskell, Employee Experience Project Manager in the People Operations Cabinet.

⭕ What is your job title?

Employee Experience Project Manager in the People Operations Cabinet

⭕ HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED FOR THE CITY?

My one year with the city will be mid-April!

⭕ HARDEST INTERVIEW QUESTION YOU HAVE EVER HAD?

This one…I truly cannot think of a question. Let’s go with, how do you resolve conflict?

⭕ What is YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING FOR THE CITY?

I love understanding all the basic building blocks or puzzle pieces that come together for a city to function. There is so much behind the scenes work and the best part is talking to employees who understand their contribution and are effective in what they do. Every day I meet someone new!

⭕ IF YOU COULD HAVE A superpower, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Definitely teleportation. As someone who loves traveling and has friends in other countries, I would love to travel anywhere in a blip of time.

⭕ favorite boston season and why?

Spring because I love how Bostonians re-emerge from the winter. There is such a positive energy surrounding everyone.

⭕ what harry potter house are you?

Gryffindor!

⭕ FUN FACT?

My default fun fact is that my family has two sets of twins. I am in the older set and then there’s another set two years younger. Thankfully, we are all fraternal twins.

⭕ what keeps you motivated at work?

The small wins! Projects and work can feel daunting and complicated so I try to focus on the questions I was able to answer one day, a process made easier for employees, or a meeting that went well.

⭕ what ARE SOME THINGS YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?

I try my best to enjoy the green spaces around Boston like the Arnold Arboretum. I am a foodie and love visiting local restaurants and cafes. Also, I often try new hobbies such as roller skating, softball, and pottery.

⭕ FAVORITE MOVIE?

I’m still in awe of Everything, Everywhere All At Once. I will be re-watching it many times. When I want to relax or feel nostalgic, I watch Studio Ghibli movies.

⭕ WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER PATH?

I don’t really place myself on one career path which might be a generational thing. If I had to choose a career, I would pick Human Resources. My professional career has been full of many types of roles (program development, strategic planning, operations, change management, project management, legislative advocacy). No matter the professional role, I love learning new skills, new ways to work smarter, and new ways to improve systems.
