Joanie, an extraordinary public servant

This week, Councilor Baker honored Joan “Joanie” Pierce, who has worked for the City of Boston for over 29 years.

Joanie held positions at the Leahy Holloran Community Center (formerly known as the Murphy Community Center) in Dorchester, at Boston Public Schools and in Boston City Clerk Maureen Feeny’s office. She now works for DoIT (Department of Innovation and Technology), where she has been for the last 14 years.

Joanie grew up in South Boston, but has lived in Dorchester for the last 40 years, where her and her husband Jim raised their sons Jimmy and Sean.

“Joanie exemplifies what it means to be a public servant […] For being there for my community, being there for your family and for being one of the nicest people that I know – it’s an honor to consider you and Jim as my friends – I love you. Your office loves you,” said Councilor Baker.
