Black History Boston: Shelley Webster
A long-time advocate for equity in the construction industry
Shelley Webster is the President of In Order Business Development, Inc. In Order provides diversity and inclusion strategies to major Real Estate Developers, Construction Managers and General Contractors with the intent of involving people of color, women, veteran and disadvantaged trades workers and businesses on construction projects throughout the Commonwealth.
In Order also provides business capacity building solutions to small, emerging, Minority, Women and Veteran Businesses that aides these businesses in becoming preferred subcontractors and suppliers to Construction Managers and General Contractors. Being a connector or bridge between the two is what she is most passionate about.
Shelley has been in construction for over 35 years and has played key roles in MBE and WBE companies, with prominent developers and construction managers and in her own construction company that employed diverse workers from the Boston area, people of color and women and has introduced many into the union building trades.
She works with such organizations as the Black Economic Council of MA (BECMA); The Massachusetts Minority Contractors Association (MMCA), Building Pathways; Mass Girls and Trades (MAGIT); and The Policy Group on Trades Women's Issues (PGTI), all which seek parity involving diverse people and businesses in construction in Boston and throughout Massachusetts. Shelley is a long time advocate and voice especially for minority contractors since the early 1990s.
