As Strategic Projects Manager, Derek works closely with the Chief of Operations and other senior officials to improve our municipal buildings and inspectional services department. He works on key transformational, operational, and strategic projects for the Operations Cabinet. Additionally, Derek supports the Chief of Operations with daily operations, monthly reporting, and liaising with members of the Mayor’s Office and other departments, among other priorities for the cabinet.

Prior to this role, Derek was a Senior Associate Consultant at Bain & Company where he contributed to several client projects in various industries including retail, consumer products, and B2B services. His work at Bain was wide ranging and included modeling strategic investment opportunities, leveraging data to estimate trends in industries, analyzing customer surveys, and more. At Bain’s Boston office, Derek led a volunteer group that hosted a virtual reading program for elementary school students at the Joseph Lee K-8 School.

Derek attended The Roxbury Latin School in West Roxbury and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics from Harvard College. He enjoys visiting art museums, biking around Greater Boston, and serving as a mentor for middle schoolers in the city. He is a lifelong resident of Dorchester and a member of the Cape Verdean community.
