Health Resource Center
The Health Resource Center is a collaboration between the Boston Public Health Commission and Boston Public Schools. The Center provides comprehensive sexual health education and in-school health counseling. The Center also gives referrals and community healthcare resources to high school students.
We deliver substance use/misuse workshops using the Life Skills Curriculum. It focuses on preventing smoking and drug use. It provides students with the skills to make informed decisions.
Health educators also discuss youth depression and suicide, stress, and anger management. They use the Break-free From Depression curriculum developed by Children's Hospital. Most recently the Health Resource Center team has developed and implemented a public health equity curriculum. It aims to inform students about health inequities in our communities. The focus is on what can be done to address these issues.

History
The Health Resource Center is rooted in meeting the needs of youth in Boston. In 2010, a group of youth were supported by the Hyde Square Task Force to create a documentary on youth experiences and thoughts about health education. This highlighted a need for in-school sexual health education and access to services. The documentary caught the attention of Boston’s City Council, which advocated for the creation of an in-school sexual health education program. That program became the Health Resource Center. The Health Resource Center has been serving Boston's public high schools for 13 years. It teaches various topics related to youth, including sexual health and public health. The Center also covers health equity, mental health awareness, and substance use education.
