Composting and Anaerobic Digestion Webinar

Do you know where your food waste goes? Join us for a presentation about the different solutions for keeping food waste out of the trash!

April 9, 2025
2025-04-09T12:00:00 - 2025-04-09T13:00:00

Register for the webinar here

If you didn't register, you can still join the webinar by clicking this link

If you have trouble joining the webinar, please email zerowaste@boston.gov

The City of Boston's Zero Waste Team presents you with a one-hour webinar about the benefits of removing food waste from your trash can.

During this hour-long webinar participants will learn:

  • How to get a curbside bin for food waste collection for FREE
  • What happens to the food waste you put in the green bin
  • What an Anaerobic Digestor is
  • How traditional composting works
  • The benefits of composting
    • Decreasing Greenhouse Gas Emissions
    • Building climate resilience
    • Sequestering carbon
    • Enriching soil

It may not seem like much, but food waste is a BIG DEAL! Every year, the emissions caused by food waste in the U.S. are larger than emissions from ALL U.S. domestic flights plus all international flights by U.S. airlines. If you can't wait for April 9, check out the Environmental Protection Agency's webpage on food waste.

In the meantime, signup for Boston's curbside food waste collection at bostoncomposts.com or visit boston.gov/project-oscar to find the food waste drop-off bin closest to you.

Our volunteers are patient and knowledgeable, so in addition to saving old objects from the trash you might even learn some new handy skills (or if you prefer to sit back and watch the masters work, that's OK too)!

Acceptable items include:

  • clothing and fabric
  • computers and phones
  • toys and wooden items
  • kitchen equipment
