Dr. Gayl Crump Swaby

Dr. Gayl Crump Swaby is an esteemed Professor of Counseling, also serving as the Online/Hybrid Program Coordinator for the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program at Springfield College, School of Social Work and Behavioral Sciences, Counseling Department Boston region. Hailing from the vibrant island of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, her academic journey commenced with a Bachelor of Social Work from Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, followed by a Master’s in Social Work from Boston University, School of Social Work. Driven by her dedication to advancing mental health care, she earned her Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University in 2011, marking the culmination of her extensive academic endeavors.

With a passion for addressing historical and generational traumas affecting BIPOC individuals and communities, Dr. Crump Swaby has authored two impactful books. Her first book, "Unlocking Legacies and Releasing Burdens: How to Let Go of Generational Traumas and the Wounds that Keep Us Chained to the Past," delves into the profound impact of historical and generational traumas. Her second publication, a textbook titled "Healing Centered Treatment Approaches for Culturally Diverse Populations," underscores her dedication to developing therapeutic strategies tailored to diverse cultural backgrounds.

Beyond her role in academia, Dr. Crump Swaby is the pioneering Founder/CEO of New Generation Consultants & Associates, Inc., a consultancy, coaching, and counseling practice specializing in multicultural and trauma-informed treatment. With over 35 years of clinical experience spanning various settings including community health centers, schools, community-based mental health centers, substance use/addictions services, and residential treatment facilities, she brings a wealth of expertise to the Boston community.

Within her clinical practice, Dr. Crump Swaby collaborates with adults, teens, parents, and families striving for satisfaction, equilibrium, and personal growth. Her areas of specialization include trauma treatment, multicultural issues, and dynamics within parent and family relationships. Employing an empathetic approach and an innovative fusion of therapy and coaching, she serves as a catalyst for transformative change in the lives of her clients.

Most significantly, Dr. Crump Swaby embodies a profound commitment and zeal to empower young individuals with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate their mental well-being.
