Fitness class descriptions

Afrobeats bootcamp

Learn technical skills and fundamental movement via a choreographed routine. Afrobeats is a catch-all term for the various Afro-pop and fusion music that has modernized and transformed within Africa. It has also caught the hearts of the diaspora and has become the name of the dance and rhythmic technique. Classes develop and build core strength, stamina, rhythmic sensibility, and most importantly, community. The class is at an intermediate level.

ashtanga Yoga

This is an invigorating style of yoga that is based on a set sequence. Each week you will be led through 26 postures that will challenge you and help bring you to a calm state at the conclusion. We tie in breath and movement and allow for many variations. This class is for everyone!

Barre is designed to help tone and strengthen your muscles. It combines ballet-inspired moves with elements of pilates, dance, yoga, and strength training. Expect high repetitions, small movements, and plenty of modifications to make this the perfect workout for all fitness levels. The only equipment needed is a chair.

cardio and core

Increase your heart rate and work your whole core during this fun, high-energy workout suited for all levels. You will be led through a variety of movements to raise the heart rate and strengthen your center of gravity, the core! Classes will vary each week so you will never get bored. We will provide modifications for those who want to take it up a notch, or for those who prefer lower-impact movements.

carnival fit

This Carnival-based Afro-Caribbean group dance class targets a full-body transformation through the art of dance and the love of Dancehall and Soca.

chair yoga

Classes are designed to create bonding experiences, encourage healthy habits, and to teach new fitness movements. Grab the family and join the fun!

Family zumba®

This total workout combines all elements of fitness — cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility. It will boost your energy and mindset each time you leave class. The dance and music featured in the program are Latin American-inspired. But, this class also contains choreographed moves to Soca, Dancehall, Afrobeats, and Hip-Hop.

fusion fit

This class is a combination of HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and Vinyasa Yoga. It provides an exciting, challenging, and fun full-body workout! HIIT is a cardio session with short bursts of very hard work. After working up a good burn, we will shift into vinyasa yoga. At that point, you will lengthen and relax any remaining tension or tightness in the body. At the end of class, we will surrender to Savasana.

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is repeated bouts of short duration, high-intensity exercise intervals. These are intermingled with periods of low intensity intervals of active recovery.

Move to the music in a fun workout that involves choreographed steps and upbeat dancing. Come let the rhythm move you, because a body in motion, stays in motion!

restorative yoga

This class encourages physical, mental, and emotional relaxation. Appropriate for all levels, restorative yoga is practiced at a slow pace, focusing on long holds, stillness, and deep breathing.

Learn a variety of dance styles with Salsa Suelta line dancing.

Strength training

This strength training class focuses on range-of-motion and compound movements. The class challenges the total body for an all-out workout. Be ready to work hard, sweat, and have a good time while getting strong!

tai chi

Tai Chi, an ancient Chinese martial art. It is used as a slow-moving exercise to achieve relaxation and stress reduction. Tai Chi offers benefits for the body, mind, and spirit.

vinyasa yoga

Vinyasa Flow incorporates traditional asanas (poses) with pranayama (life force energy, or breath). You will be guided through a series of poses that are intentionally sequenced to realign the body, reset the nervous system, and settle the mind.

Zumba involves energetic dance and aerobic elements. Instructors provide choreographed moves of Hip-Hop, Soca, Samba, Salsa, Merengue, Mambo, and Martial Arts.
