Housing Programs Income and Rent Limits
Learn the current income limits used to determine eligibility for housing programs offered by the Mayor’s Office of Housing (MOH).
Income limits are based on household size and a percentage of the annual average income for the Boston area. These limits are set annually and subject to change. Housing programs qualify applicants based on their household income. The standard used for determining income eligibility is called the Area Median Income (AMI). Since each market area in the United States has different living costs and income levels, AMI is based on where you live and your household size. For example, the income limit for a Community Development Block Grant-funded program (CDBG) for a family of four living in Boston is $118,450.
Monthly rents are calculated to be affordable to households at various income levels. Monthly rents are set annually and subject to change.
