David Alvarado
David (He/Him/Él) is an LCA Specialist within the Mayor’s Office of Language and Communication Access (OLCA) for the City of Boston. In this role, David works collaboratively with departments by providing guidance and support to ensure City-wide compliance for the OLCA policy and ordinance.
Prior to joining OLCA, David worked at ABCD (Action for Boston Community Development), a non-profit agency, as a Bilingual Family Advocate within the Head Start & Children’s Services program. One of his main objectives was to provide equitable access to childcare and other essential services (such as financial, housing, food, and immigration) to low-income families, primarily ASL and Spanish-speaking, with commitment, respect, and compassion.
David migrated from El Salvador to the U.S., living in Connecticut prior to moving to Boston. As a multilingual learner, he quickly became aware of the multiple and challenging language barriers that someone with limited English can encounter, and it is those same experiences that serve as inspiration to carry and implement OLCA's mission to make the City of Boston accessible for everyone.
David is fluent in Spanish and proficient in French. During his free time, he enjoys photography, baking, playing tennis, exploring the city, and spending some quality time with his beloved cats Merry & Pippin.
