We want to hear from you! Tell us about past, current, and ongoing flooding across the city by filling out the Flood Survey. The survey takes less than 5 minutes and the information you share will help Boston plan and prioritize projects to help reduce flooding.

The Project

The Boston Community-Based Flood Resilience and Green Infrastructure Planning project is a collaborative initiative between the City of Boston's Office of Green Infrastructure, the city's 3 watershed associations - the Charles River, Mystic River and Neponset River Watershed Associations - and many Boston community groups that engages the public in collecting much-needed information about where we see flooding in Boston.

The goals of the project are to: 
  1.   Build on existing data to develop a comprehensive understanding of precipitation-based flooding impacts in Boston.
  2.   Crowdsource flooding occurrences, impacts, and possible solutions. 
  3.   In collaboration with the public, identify on the ground actions, with a focus on green infrastructure, that will reduce stormwater flooding in Boston as the climate changes. 
  4.   Identify policy actions or regulatory changes the City could take that will reduce stormwater flooding impacts.
  5.   Develop an action plan for reducing precipitation-based flooding that is backed by technical analysis and informed by residents.

This work is was funded by the State's Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Grant Program and will take place over the next two years.

We work to protect, restore, and enhance the Charles River and its watershed using science, advocacy, and the law by developing science-based strategies to increase resilience, protect public health, and promote environmental equity.

Mystic River Watershed Association

We work to create a healthy, vibrant, and resilient Mystic River watershed for the benefit of all our community members.

Neponset River Watershed Association

We protect and restore the natural resources of the Neponset River, its tributaries, and surrounding watershed lands for the benefit of present and future generations.
