Phillips Square Redesign
Phillips Square has been transformed into a colorful gathering space for the Chinatown community.
The Boston Transportation Department, working with the BPDA, Cresset Development, and Kyle Zick Landscape Architecture, have transformed the streetscape on Harrison Avenue — between Essex Street and Oxford Pl — into a neighborhood-friendly gathering space. Based on ideas developed with members of the community in Chinatown, the current plaza space includes seating, landscaping in planters, painted graphics on the street, a painted utility box, and foo dog statues facing outwards. The plaza has added 5,000 square feet of expanded public space available for people to gather.
