McKinney Playground Improvements

| Park Established 1930 |

McKinney Playground's master plan has entered into the final design and construction documentation phase!

McKinney Playground is a significant recreational resource for the bustling residential neighborhood on the outskirts of Oak Square, Brighton. In 2024, this beloved space will finally be getting the face lift it deserves! With the guidance of community input, the Parks Department is in the process of turning McKinney Playground's 2016 Master Plan into a final Schematic Plan, and then finally into Construction Documents!  The programmatic elements of the existing park will stay generally the same, but the park's existing features will be renovated, plus a few new features:

  • Entrances and entry plaza (NEW!)
  • Playground
  • Sprayground (NEW!)
  • Shade trees
  • Walking paths
  • Ball fields
  • Basketball court
  • Sports court

The new design will help address drainage issues at the fields and will provide new spectator seating. The park's iconic existing trees will be protected and additional trees will be added around the play equipment and along Faneuil Street.

Stay tuned for the final community meeting!
