Getting Your Youth ID

Learn how to acquire your Youth Employment and Opportunity (YEO) Youth ID or Massachusetts-issued Identification card.

When starting a new job, many employers require you to present a valid photo ID before you can begin. Don’t have an ID? No problem! YEO can issue you a youth ID to help you start your employment journey right away.

Get your YEO-Issued ID!

Youth ages 14–18 can obtain their own ID by visiting the Office of Youth Employment and Opportunity.

To receive a Youth ID, youth must provide:

  • Proof of Identity: Birth Certificate, Aspen Bio Page, or Passport

  • Proof of Residency: A piece of mail dated within the last 90 days (this can be addressed to your parent or legal guardian)

Once the required documentation is provided, our team will take the youth’s photo and issue their Youth ID on the spot.

Get a Massachusetts Identification Card!

Alternatively, youth and young adults can apply for a Massachusetts Identification (Mass ID) card. The Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) can issue an ID to any youth who is over the age of 14, a nondriver, and a resident of Massachusetts.

To apply for a Mass ID, you must first decide whether you want a REAL ID or a Standard ID. You can learn more about the differences between the two types of ID cards. Once you’ve decided, you can get your ID by bringing the required identification documents and a completed application to an RMV Service Center. You can start the application online.
