The state of Massachusetts and the City of Boston support insulation installation through programs like Mass Save.
Who can install or replace insulation?
- Homeowners and contractors can apply for the Short-form Permit and install or replace insulation if the work is being done on a 1-2 unit owner-occupied home.
- You must hire a contractor to apply for the permit and perform the work if it’s being done on a three-family or bigger dwelling, such as:
- an apartment building
- a multi-unit condo, or
- one floor of a triple-decker house.
