Construction is underway!
The next phase of work will begin between East Berkeley Street and Traveler Street on the odd side of the street. Activities will include:
- Partial removal of the median to facilitate widening the sidewalk
- Setting curb and installing drainage and street lighting in the sidewalk

Please find the final design renderings linked below. These are representative of the final design, but are not to scale or to be used for engineering purposes.
- Better sidewalks and safer crossings
- Rebuild all curb ramps to meet accessibility standards
- Widen the sidewalk on the west side between Traveler Street and East Berkeley Street
- Build pedestrian islands at each intersection to shorten crossing distances
- Install fresh, high visibility crosswalks
- Use pedestrian-friendly signal phasing at signalized intersections
- Smoother Road
- Repave the road between Herald Street and East Berkeley Street, making a more comfortable experience for all users.
- Separated bike lanes
- Add one-way separated bike lanes on both sides of the street, allowing travel in both directions
- Green and resilient
- Plant new street trees
- Use permeable pavers where appropriate

Upcoming Events
EventsPrevious Meetings
Previous MeetingsOn May 16th 2025, we attended a meeting the the South End Seniors group. We gave a presentation about the project and asked for their comments about the designs. We heard questions about how the designs change the crosswalks and concerns about signal timings being too short to effectively cross the street. We also heard concerns about resident permit parking regulations being changed. We confirmed that crossings will be shorter and we will review the crossing times. We are currently reviewing parking regulations and will be reaching out to businesses and residents on the street to determine what rules will be implemented.
On April 1, 2025 we attended the East Berkeley Neighborhood Association meeting. We presented an update on construction plans and reviewed the design plans.
On October 1, 2024 we attended the East Berkeley Neighborhood Association Meeting. We presented the finalized plan documents and requested feedback especially around the community's desires for curb uses. We heard about concerns around emergency vehicle access, illegal and uncourteous uses by delivery vehicles, and concerns around pedestrian's desired pathways through the corridor. We are working on an email update to share with the EBNA and encourage you to sign up for our future emails at the subscribe for updates link below.
On August 6, 2024 we attended the Landmarks Commission hearing to present the current project status and field questions from the commission.
On September 13, 2022 we attended the East Berkeley Neighborhood Association Meeting to share an update and take feedback
